While I shared some fun Galentine’s day ideas, like this pretty ombre pink and gold tablescape and this decorated bar cart, I didn’t forget about creating something special for you and your one and only!

An Elegant Alternative to a Valentine’s Date Night Out

There’s no denying that getting all dolled up for a night out on Valentine’s day with your special someone can be enjoyable. Fine dining in a social ambiance, with a beautiful view and a satisfying menu selection may be preferred but you can celebrate Valentine’s day with a date night by candlelight in your home. Admittedly, sixty percent of the time (if not more), we prefer to enjoy a delicious meal at home. Besides, nothing is as intimate as a candle light dinner at home!

Create an intimate space

You can bring the same feeling and mood from your favorite fancy restaurant into your home. Don’t underestimate your ability to transform a part of your dwelling into a romantic setting. Our dining table seats eight so if I want to set up a dinner for two, I will remove the center extension to make the dining table smaller. While other times, I will use our round breakfast table and set it up in a different room in our main living area, for more of an intimate vibe. Start by looking around your home for a cozy nook or corner you can nestle a table and two chairs…perhaps in front of a fireplace or by a window.

A Modern Approach to Romantic Dining for Two

Setting the table

Once you’ve decided on the location of where you and your sweetie will dine, now comes the fun part…tablescaping! Inspired by the table decor of hotel dining rooms in metropolitan cities, I created a sleek, yet classic modern table for two. Tones of grey, black and white, gold and silver accents, and glowing tealight candles welcome you. Candles, flowers, and wine are the most sought out romantic trio so they were definitely included on this tabletop for two! Resembling table lamps, I found these glass tealight candle holders at HomeGoods last year and knew they would be perfect to use for setting intimate dinner tabletops (checkout this and this). I housed romantic vanilla cream petite spray roses in glass votive candle holders and scattered three mini arrangements down the center of the table. I absolutely love the delicate ruffle petals of these roses – the color was a bright pop of contrast to the grey table linen. Speaking of which…I used this gray tablecloth and placed a floral printed sheer fabric I found at JoAnn fabrics, as an overlay. For the dinnerware, I chose to go with our classic bone china –  sophisticated white platinum line dinner plates. Before setting down the salad plate, I layered a black dinner napkin in between and then placed a grey gold marble square appetizer plate for a modern flair. To compliment the gold tones from the appetizer plate, I used our gold flatware to bring out that jewel element. I pulled out my vintage crystal silver rim wine glasses to coordinate with the dinnerware (similar ones found, here and here).

Don’t forget the wine

Enjoy your preferred wine with your meal by conveniently having it chilled in a wine bucket. I stationed our floor standing wine bucket in front of the table for easy access (here’s a similar one).

Add special touches

Make dinner for two in your home special with your own thoughtful touches. I placed a heart-shaped covered chocolate on top of a rose petal. You can also surprise your mate with a Valentine’s day card tucked underneath their dinner plate or on their chair. Without being too cheeky, I added a bit of Valentine’s day decor, by hanging a gold metal Love banner on the wall. I found it this time last year at Target.

Romantic dinner date music playlist

Music is an important part of the overall atmosphere of any dinner party, whether big or small. An easy way to bring on a certain mood is to fill the air with smooth tunes! You can either create a romantic song playlist, tell Alexa Echo to play romantic love songs, or checkout Spotify for their popular pre-made playlists.
