Ladies Celebrating Ladies…let’s celebrate Galentine’s Day!

Calling all ladies! Valentine’s day is just a few weeks away and whether you’re single or happily spoken for, hosting a Galentine’s day in celebration of your close friends is a wonderful way to celebrate each other and the friendships we have with one another. We all know that when we get together with our gal pals, it will surely result in a good time. Gathering the girls for fun, laughter, sharing stories, eating, drinking, and playing games, sounds good – count me in! But when hosting a Galentine’s party, let’s not forget the tablescape. Never underestimate the power of a beautiful table. It sets the tone, the ambiance, and it’s the first impression you are giving your guests. For me, I don’t save creating tablescapes just for special occasions, I think every dinner party or gathering is worthy of one. Afterall, given that your guests will be spending a considerable time sitting at the dinner table, why not make it inviting and beautiful. With that in mind, I wanted to share and inspire you with my ombre tablescape design. Inspired by the traditional Valentine’s day shades of pink, I created this ombre tablescape with accents of gold. Let’s dive in as I share how you can recreate a similar look or to simply get your creative juices flowing for your Galentine’s tablescape!

The Flowers.

Flowers are the ultimate necessity for a Galentine’s tabletop – it is the crown for the table. You don’t need to call your florist either, check out your local grocery store instead. I found an array of regular roses and garden roses at Trader Joe’s! Using roses in shades of white, pale pink, and dark pink, I created a sweet, and feminine centerpiece by arranging them in an ombre pattern.

To recreate this floral centerpiece is simple. Start out by cutting the flower stems so that they are all the same height. Then start arranging your flowers by inserting the lightest flower first. Then continue with the next lightest shade. So for my arrangement, I started with white, then moved to light pink, then ended with the dark pink. I used a long rectangular clear glass vase to insert the roses in. You can find this vase at your local craft store or even the dollar store. For a decorative touch that allowed me to conceal the view of the floral stems, I simply wrapped some light pink ribbon onto the vase and adhere it with double sided tape. The ribbon type I used specifically is called acetate satin fused edge. It’s a stiffer ribbon with a satin finish and I found it very easy work with when using tape.

I also found some flower fillers like pink carnations, and wax flowers. I cut these floral stems and created four mini bouquets by inserting them in these gold votive candle holders. I placed two of these bouquet arrangements on opposite sides of the table centerpiece.

Set the table.

Linens (napkins & tablecloth)

To add to the ombre look, I used the same color hues of the roses when choosing my dinner napkins. I followed the shades of the flowers by placing the lightest shade of napkin on the dinner plate and moved on to the next shade, and so on.

When it comes to dressing up a table, I find there isn’t a wide variety of beautiful tablecloths to choose from. So a tip is when I’m looking for that special “wow factor”, I head over to JoAnn fabrics and select what inspires me and that I know will be the perfect detail to incorporate with the rest of my table items.

To compliment the lux look of the table fabric,  I coordinated the look with gold-rim finishes for the dinnerware and glassware. I used glass chargers I found at HomeGoods, white, gold-rim dishes I found while antiquing a while back, gold vintage flatware, and gold-rim wine glasses, also found at HomeGoods.

Add a personal finishing touch.

I love to add special finishing touches to a table setting. It’s doesn’t have to be elaborate. I found these cute white, gold rim, mini heart-shaped trinket plates from the Dollar Spot section at Target. This makes for a great take home gift for your guests. It also serves as a festive decorative touch to the tabletop.

Style your place settings with flowers. I garnished the place settings by placing a mini floral stem atop of each heart plate. By doing this, you accomplish three things. The first is you are adding a pop of color to your table setting (be it subtle or vivid). Secondlingly, you soften up the place setting when adding a delicate texture bloom – be it big or small. And third, it’s a great way to welcome guests as they find their seats.

No need to slave over baking a homemade heart-shaped treat, that is unless you want to. Your local bakery or grocery store fill their shelves with holiday treats for you to choose from. This chocolate mousse cake was found at Trader Joe’s.
