Hi, friends! What a transformation, right?! After 11+ years, we finally decided it was time to give our guest room a makeover! Before the makeover, the guest room was filled with furniture I owned and had in my previous apartment before moving into our home now. I donated my four poster mahogany bed to a mother and daughter who were very happy to receive it. The other pieces were either relocated to another part of the house or stored away. A few items we kept in the room is the area rug, mattress, and the nightstand.

I wanted the guest room to have a similar look and style to the other rooms in the house. I wanted to transform the guest room from a dark space to a bright and light one. The overall design of the guest room makeover is modern glam with a Parisian flair. My goal was to have the guest room feel airy, dreamy, and serene – yet inviting and comfortable. Whenever I see images of Parisian interiors, I admire the refined, yet simple and timeless style. I created a quiet color palette that is subdued and lets the decor pieces and finishes steal the show!

We started by painting over the light sage green wall paint color with Benjamin Moore Aura – Sea Pearl. It’s part of their off-white collection and it’s one shade lighter than the paint color in our master – which is Pale Oak. I wanted a paint color that is tranquil and creates a serene environment.

We replaced the old bed with this Alcantara Diamond Upholstered Panel bed in a velvet white. Truth be told, when the bed arrived, we seriously contemplated placing it in our room and moving ours to the guest room!

A pillow top mattress, a selection of sleep pillows, soft cotton sheets, a warm blanket, and a comfy chair are a few things we hope will give our guests an enjoyable overnight stay experience. We are happy with how it turned out and we look forward to hosting our overnight guests this summer. We want them to feel they are in a 5-star retreat or as close as possible! 🙂

The inspiration behind this guest room makeover started with this pair of shadow box frames I found at Marshalls a few months ago. The antiqued gold framed shadow boxes are adorned with a white rose with gold painted edges. They are like a pieces of art for the guest room – I love how simple they are but make such a statement.

We kept our nightstand. It has a french country elegance to it with this mirrored top and front face and distressed ivory wood. Due to a small closet on the opposite side of the bed, there is not enough room for a second nightstand because of the closet door that when opened – it would hit up against the furniture. We are thinking that perhaps later down the road, we can redo the inside of the closet and remove the door to allow for a second nightstand…we’ll see.

Atop of the nightstand are a few decorative pieces, along with a few guest room necessities. The first being the white storage box, where I stored away the remotes to the TV, along with our Wifi password. I decided not to place an alarm clock on the nightstand and in its place, we added one of our Amazon Alexa dots. It’s a convenient (and tech savvy) for guests. They can ask Alexa for the time, the current weather, and play music of their liking.

For a couple of the decorative pieces, I love the simplicity and modern take on this Gabriella Vase. The two peony stems showcase so well! The clear glass vase doesn’t compete with the other decor items on the nightstand – which allowed me to add this tall vase with it’s beautiful design that reminds me of something I would see in a Parisian interior space. We had this vase in our dining room for years  – it sat next to our accent chair. It was the perfect piece to relocate to the guest room.

Some other items I added to the top of the nightstand is this Amber Bergamot Patchouli room spray and a gold leaf trinket dish for guests to place any jewelry they may have.

When it comes to guest room necessities, I like to have a tray of toiletry items readily available in the event they may have forgotten something. In the first draw of the nightstand, I placed a variety of things from the basics like toothpaste, a toothbrush, soap, and lotion to a grooming kit, sleep eye masks, a loofa, body wash, and pain medicine for any onset headaches. In the second draw, guests can find fresh wash, hand, and bath towels. I found these towels a few years ago either at TJ Maxx or Marshalls – can’t recall which store.

For the bedding, I knew I wanted to dress the bed with a duvet that was white in color. I wanted it to have a classic elegance about it but not too fussy. I also wanted a duvet that could easily transition in the change of seasons…bright and light for the spring and summer and for the winter, I can easily add a fur throw to give it that winter white warm vibe. I found this Savion Bedding in Pearl and fell in love with the satiny, micro-pleated top. I didn’t want guests to be overwhelmed with accent pillows, so I intentionally kept it simple. I pulled out this textured shag decorative pillow we have and it was just enough to add to the plush, cloud-like feel of the bedding.

When thinking of ideas on what I will decorate over the bed, my original thought was to add a sunburst mirror. I looked around the house and remembered I have two of these decorative brass floral gold wreaths I had used last Christmas to decorate our closet doors with. I love these wreaths and I think it’s a stylish above-the bed decor piece that complemented well with the other accessories in the room. It’s definitely a statement piece.

Let’s talk about the lightning! All the rooms upstairs requires a ceiling fan – even with central air. Bummer, I know but ceiling fans have come a long way – even since three years ago when we purchased the ceiling lighting fan fixture for the master. Now brands are offering chandelier ceiling fan combo options that are pretty nice! We chose this Silver Orchid Campbell 49-inch Chrome Lighted Ceiling Fan that have unique chrome metal blades. It’s so pretty in person and when the light is on, the crystal light fixture sparkles on the walls.

Instead of table lamps, I opted for wall sconce lighting. I found this Possini Euro Park Place Chrome Swing Arm Wall Lamp and felt it complimented the chandelier ceiling fan so well. For a less inexpensive cost, we purchased it from Lamps Plus Open Box option. The beautiful details of these wall lamps are the chrome finish, the hexagonal glass spire, and the inner off-white shade and outer silver sheer shade – somewhat similar to the ones we have in our master bedroom.

In this corner of the guest bedroom, I created a seating area vignette. I found a floor mirror from HomeGoods that has an antique gold finish with a decorative beaded trim. I wanted to hang this pretty mirror on the wall but while it may not look like it in the pictures, it weighs over 200 lbs. We were afraid it would come crashing down (taking the wall with it) because there are no studs on that wall! So safety over beauty guys…I left it leaning on the wall.

We relocated the accent chair we had here previously and I replaced it with this Sabienne Light Pink Velvet Armchair . It’s sooo comfortable! I wanted to make the chair even more of a comfortable place to sit at so I took this blush pink bench I had in our living room and placed it here in front of the chair so that one can put there feet up and relax. I added this Madison Park Chloe Cotton Tufted Chenille Throw. Guests can cover up while perusing through a magazine, reading a book, or when on their phone.

I replaced the silver accent table we had previously with this round nickel end table. I love that it has two shelves so that I can use the top to decorate with a flower arrangement and scented candle and the bottom is used as a bar cart of sorts where I can serve bottled water and treats. For styling purposes, I added a large flower arrangements, but when guests arrive, I would place a smaller arrangement so that the the top tier can be used to place personal items and/or a beverage.

Adjacent to the chair is the wall-mounted TV for guests to view from the accent chair or the bed. I also plugged in a LED dusk and dawn sensor night light that includes a USB charger.

On this wall, there used to be a console table that held a TV. I decided to relocate the TV and mount it to another wall and make this a gallery wall. I knew when it came to prints of spectacular photography, I was going to select something from the beautiful collection of Georgianna Lane. I looked at her Paris photography prints and was undecided whether I should choose the Paris Gallery Wall or New York City Fine Art Photography collection. So I looked to you guys for help and put up a poll on my insta stories for you to vote. Boy, was it a close! The NYC prints lead by four points. I took two full days to make a decision! It was one late evening that I had both print collections in my cart and walking back to the guest room to make a choice. At the end, I felt the Paris Gallery Wall worked well with the framed art on the opposite side of the guest bedroom. I find the European beauty of Paris is the grand architectural details, the decorative trim, and the carved details that evoke a sense of elegance and romance. I love that I have a piece of that through these gorgeous photos of actual building details in Paris!  I searched high and low and found these gallery frames to hold the lovely photography prints.

Underneath the gallery wall, guests will find convenient luggage racks. We’ve had these racks for years. It helps so that guests are not bending down to the floor to get clothes out of their luggage.

So that’s our guest room reveal! It took a little over 3-months to put it all together but that’s how it goes sometimes when you want to find all the right pieces. So what do you guys think of the makeover?
