The summer season is coming to a close but that doesn’t mean we still can’t entertain outdoors. So why not welcome fall with a dinner party alfresco style?! See how I segue into fall entertaining with my early autumn tablescape.
I started by dressing the table with a neutral palette…a cream colored tablecloth & dinner napkins. I used my white gold-trim dinnerware – it’s perfect to use anytime during the year and not mention, it’s classic and works for any style event. I incorporated a touch of rustic with my decorative wooden bowl that I used as a centerpiece (more on that below), a pair of vintage brass candle stick holders added that warm touch, and amber-colored wine glasses resembling the hue of fall foliage.
For my centerpiece, I wanted to create a unique table decoration using my wooden bowl (vintage wooden dough bowls are a perfect choice but any wooden bowl/tray used for salads and/or breads will work). I layered the bottom of the bowl with greenery I picked up from the grocery store (6 stems to be exact), I centered a large peasant bread, freshly baked from my local market and added fruits of the season…peaches, blackberries and figs. Be sure to cover the stems of your greenery with aluminum foil so that the bread does not come in contact with them. For added protection, cut a piece of parchment paper to the size of the bread and let the bread rest on it – then center it in the wooden bowl.
Between the freshly baked bread and the sweet smell of the fruits, a wonderful aroma permeated the air.

P.S. For anybody who noticed, yes, yes, I know…I placed my flatware incorrectly – such a hostess faux pas! I don’t know what I was thinking. And for those of you who may not know… the proper way to place your flatware, the salad fork and dinner fork are to be placed to the left of the dinner plate and the dinner knife and soup spoon are to be positioned to the right of the dinner plate. The dessert fork and coffee/tea spoon is to be placed above the dinner plate.
