It was finally time to switch out my summer door wreath to a fall decorated one. I decided to get crafty and create my own DIY wreath using tri-color eucalyptus. Rather than combining the three colors of red, purple and green, I decided to create an ombre-inspired look. It was pretty easy to put together and using a metal wreath form is versatile support for wreaths.
Follow my steps below to recreate the look so that you can dress up your door or wall for the fall harvest season.
What you will need:
- 18″ Metal Wreath Form
- 3 bundles of Tri-Color Eucalyptus Stems
- Scissors
- Pruning (Garden) Shears
- Wreath Door Hanger
Step 1. Separate your eucalyptus stems by color
Step 2. Choose the color you want to use first (I started with the dark purple stem) then loop your first stem through to the cross bar.
Step 3. Continue adding stems of the same color, until the bottom half of the form is covered. If you find the top of your stems are too long, use your scissors to cut to size.
Step 4. Once you have finished looping one color, start with the next color (I used the red color). You will start to notice that your wreath form is getting full and you may not be able to loop a stem with a thick bottom – this is when you will need to use your shears to cut it. Just be sure to loop and pull the stem as much as you can in order to secure it. You can insert your stems from the back of the form once you see that you have no more space in the front. Continue until you finished adding the second color, then move on to your final color – loop the stems until your form is covered completely.
Step 5. Use your hanger to hang your finished wreath. Step back and take a look at your wreath. With your scissors, snip away any stems that may be too long. I didn’t mind the loose placement of the long stems as it gave off a more organic look – making it seem as if grew out that way.
Display your festive wreath on your wall, mirror or front door, for all to see…it’s the perfect compliment to your home this season!
