3 SIMPLE WAYS TO REFRESH YOUR HOME FOR THE NEW YEAR

On New Year’s day, the whole morning and afternoon was pretty much spent taking down the Christmas ornaments from the two trees and packing them away, storing all the Christmas decor and accessories, and the much needed dusting, sweeping and vacuuming from the tree needles, the remnants from the flocked tree and the glitter from the ribbon I used. While I LOVE decorating for the holidays, it’s a definite chore in getting the home back to its simplified state.

While Christmas shopping for family and friends in early December, I ran across so many pretty home decor accessories and accent furniture…does that happen to you too? I’m sure I’m not alone when you’re at the store to buy presents for others, yet you find yourself picking up a few things for yourself! Well, I had picked up a few things and stored it away until the new year! Knowing that I would bringing these fews new things out of storage, inspired me to make a few changes to our living space.

Today, I’ll be sharing 3 simple ways I refreshed our living room space for the New Year. These simple ways are small tweaks without breaking the bank!

#1. Add a new accent color
#2. Add a few new decor accessories
#3. Rearrange your furniture layout

A great way to slowly introduce a new color in a space of your home is with your home decor (i.e., toss pillows, throws, decor accessories, flowers, an area rug, etc.).  For an immediate change,  painting an accent wall will also automatically spruce up a space. In recent months, I had introduced a new accent color to our living room…blush! It is still a muted tone against our neutral monochromatic color palette. It started out with a pair of toss pillows and I had slowly added more blush colored home decor items. These were details I was able to build upon in the rest of the living space. One of the newest items are these ombre white and blush pom-pom throws I found in HomeGoods.

One of the biggest impacts in refreshing a room is with your furniture layout. This does not necessarily mean you need to change the entire layout, you can simply swap out a chair from one room to another and see if it looks better in its new space. Or you can create a little vignette in an unused part of your living space.

One of the items on our ever-growing home projects list is to remove this picture window and install french doors that would lead to our deck. Since that got pushed down on the list, I had decided to rearrange some of the accent furniture by moving this white lacquered table I use as a console to the front of this window. For many years, this table was stationed in a small nook in front of a wallpapered wall. This section of the living room was unused space and now it feels filled in and I actually like how the styled table accents the once lonely/ordinary window. It’s amazing how moving certain furniture pieces can change the whole look of a room!

In place of the console table, I decided to move our seating bench to the wallpaper wall and used a small accent side table I had in our home office. This bench use to sit underneath the long white console table so that it can be used for extra seating but I noticed that when we had a full house, guests would not pull out the bench to sit on it without us saying they can. This little vignette is now inviting and guests can sit, conversate and place a drink on the small side table. While we have plans for this wall space (another item on our project list), I can foresee in the future replacing the seating bench with two chairs but for now, this will do.

Another new accessory is this pink velour bench. Love the gold base! Why another bench you ask? Because one…it’s sooo pretty, two…extra seating or can be used to put your feet up and three…I knew I could use it in our home office, should I need to relocate it.

The gold olive branch from HomeGoods is a beautiful object of art on a marble stand – a new addition to the decor in the living room.
