If you follow my blog, you know I’ve talked about my excitement for finally expanding our deck so for this post on ‘These Four Walls’ series, as promised, I am sharing pictures of our newly renovated outdoor living space!
We were told we couldn’t stain the deck floors yet since it is pressure treated wood (urgh). So I’ll have to wait until the fall to stain the deck floor a darker color.
Originally, I was looking for a dining table that had an insert for an umbrella but I could not find a dining set that paired well with the sectional. It was necessary to have an umbrella due to the hot afternoon sun facing the back side of the house, so the alternative was a free standing umbrella that can rotate (bonus!)
Since there are a lot of members in our family, it was important for us to have seating for eight and this table comes with a table extension. It’s so simple to use, you just slide the table open to insert or remove the extension piece.
I opted for a circular conversational sectional (that also seats 8). Having an ottoman makes this seating even more comfortable!
I decided to stick with a neutral color palette so that the indoor color scheme from the living room transitions well with the outdoor decor.
Notice the grill in the picture above? That squared-off section was the size of the original deck that we expanded from. As you can see, once you place a grill, you don’t have much space to work with for seating.
I’m not the only one who loves hanging out on the deck…Bailey will sit out there for hours just watching the birds and squirrels!
I’ve tucked planters filled with potted flowers, strategically placed more all around the deck and brought in a few privacy shrubs, creating a little oasis.
This living space has certainly been a place that I enjoy sitting out on whether its early morning with coffee in hand as I listen to the singing birds, a lazy weekend afternoon lounging, or eating dinner as I watch the sun go down. Summer just got better!!

Where did you find the outdoor rug? I like the style. I’ve been looking for something similar but the extra shipping costs make them costly.

Hi Jenn, I bought the outdoor area rug at Target this past June. It appears they don’t have it online anymore – maybe you can check your nearest Target store. Other sources to try for outdoor area rugs are overstock.com (it’s free shipping over $50), homedecorators.com, or homedepot.com
Hope you find what you are looking for!
