HOW TO MAKE A DELICIOUS AND EASY HOMEMADE PEPPERONI PIZZA

Homemade Pepperoni Pizza for an At-home Movie Night

Homemade Pepperoni Pizza

Movie night at home happens to be one of our favorite things to do on a Friday or Saturday night. It’s a chance for us to get cozy and check out films we wanted to see in the movie theatre but didn’t get a chance to watch. We also love pizza but rather than ordering a pie for dinner, I had decided earlier in the afternoon to stop at my local Italian Marketplace and make a homemade pizza using a crusty bread instead of pizza dough. Rather than using traditional pizza sauce, I picked up tomato sauce, tomato paste, and diced tomatoes. I added some spices to the sauce for added flavor and it turned out great. I also bought sliced pepperoni, and fresh mozzarella marinated with fresh basil and olive oil – boy talk about the flavor it added to the pizza…so good! We paired this homemade pizza with one of our favorite merlot wine. This was an easy and delicious pizza recipe, perfect for a movie night at home!

All the ingredients I used came from my local Italian Marketplace but you can certainly substitute by using your favorite brand ingredients.

yield: 2 (You can get four slices out of each bread half. If you can eat more than 2 slices, you can make the other half of bread)

ingredients

directions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.  Lengthwise, slice your bread in half, place on a baking sheet and set aside. (If you use one half of the bread, you will get 4 slices. If you use the other bread half, you will get an additional 4 slices)
  • Over medium-high heat, pour the whole can of diced tomatoes in a small pot, add to it 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, half a can of the tomato sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, basil, oregano and sugar. Stir and cover with a lid. Once the sauce comes to a boil, turn off heat.
  • Spoon a generous amount of sauce on your bread, add your mozzarella, pepperoni and place in the oven for about 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
  • Cut each bread into 4 slices and serve.

Before we started the movie, we decided to let the food digest and play a little game of Tic Tac Toe. Ahem, someone was soooo into the popcorn that I won three games!
