HOW TO CREATE, STYLE & ORGANIZE A MAKEUP VANITY

Create.

Prior to our bedroom makeover, I use to have all my makeup sitting on top of my dresser, which no matter how I organized it, it was something I wish I was able to conceal rather than having it displayed. So when my sister helped in some of the bedroom redesign, I told her I wanted a vanity where I could sit and enjoy getting ready in the morning. Most of the vanities sold online looked a bit too traditional for my taste, with the matching attached mirror. So a modern white lacquer desk with drawers and a large statement mirror was a better solution and much prettier, if I do say so myself! (wink)

Style.

The main accessories to any styled vanity are…

A tray to hold and display your perfume bottles. I was lucky enough to nab this gold tray from Marshalls. But I found a few similar options, here.

luxury scented candle that emits a perfumed fragrance in the room is both functional and a beautiful piece of decor. A thick glass dome not only protects your candle but also smoklessly extinguish it.

A trash can is a definite necessity for any vanity area. I converted this large silver scrolled hurricane candle holder into a trash can. Add a small-sized garbage bag and viola!

Another must have on a vanity is a tissue box and not any ordinary box. I like to remove the store bought tissues from the box and house them in a pretty box that is long enough to hold the tissues in place and has a lid to conceal the tissues. The alternative to a box is to remove the tissues from the original packaging and place them on a tray (that is currently what I have on one of the nightstands). The black Coco Chanel box you see in the picture above, use to hold some of my fashion jewelry but now that I have a dedicated space for that, I now use it to hold makeup remover wipes. Yes, you read right! Sorry Chanel, I know the box should be used for something more glamourous but it works, is convenient and no one is the wiser!

Organize.

A small milk glass jar holds my rollerball perfume bottles for easy access. I will be selling two of these jars in my Etsy shop, if you’re interested.

Ever wonder where to put all those perfume samples you get from the department store? One of my christmas presents from my sister is this ceramic box and it’s a perfect place to hide these testers!

To add a little drama to the inside of my drawers, I cut to size this decorative gold paisley wrapping paper and use it as a drawer liner. We all know that when handling makeup, no matter how much you try, you are bound to have a spill or smudge – so by adding this paper as a liner it’s a sure way to protect the inside of the drawer and is easily changeable! Just think of all your paper options!

I used to have an acrylic makeup storage container and rather than getting rid of the whole container, I took out the drawer out of the container and inserted them in my new vanity drawers as a way to organize my makeup.  I also purchased acrylic drawer trays to organize the rest of my makeup in the second drawer. These can be found here and here.
