MY MASTER BEDROOM SPRING REFRESH

As winter fades out and spring moves in, I like to freshen up our home a bit. While I added a few new things, I’m not talking about an overhaul of replacing items in your space but instead, swapping out just a few things with items you already have in other rooms of your house.

This past weekend, I started with our master bedroom. The four things that make our bedroom our oasis is having it feel comfortable, relaxing, organized, and of course, pretty. The spring refresh in this room all started with swapping out my duvet cover (I prefer duvet covers over comforters because they are easier to store if you have more than one).

I was looking for a new duvet cover for our guest room that had a similar look to the one in our master bedroom. I couldn’t find one that looked similar and was reasonably priced, so I settled for Vera Wang solid color comforter in a waffle pattern – in a grey color. About a month or so later, I stopped in at HomeGoods and found the duvet cover I was looking for all along – don’t you hate when that happens? Well, I couldn’t pass it up, knowing I might not find one like it again. So, I decided to get it and keep it for our master bedroom – knowing I would use it for the spring and summer seasons.

Add a couple of new bedroom essentials.

While our previous duvet has a similar look to the new duvet, the new set from the Hotel Balfour collection is a lighter gray color, and the slightly wider borders have a pretty embroidered design on it – which I love. I hardly find everything I want all at the same time. Typically, it will be a few or even several months later before I find coordinating decor items that pull the look together. This happened with the 23″ grey Tahari decorative toss pillows (also found at HomeGoods). To create a modern, layered look, I used them to anchor the two front embroidered shams.

Add a new accent color and swap out decor items and/or furniture pieces you already own.

I wanted to keep the same clean aesthetic with a neutral color palette of grey and white but decided to introduce a new accent color in this room. I pulled the pink seating bench that we had in our living room and swapped it with the taupe one that used to live in the bedroom. By just adding another color – the room was already felt brighter and lighter! To coordinate with the pink bench, I pulled our Tahari throw from our storage basket and laid it across the bed. This is a great way to create layers, a splash of color, pattern, and texture to a room.

Another item I pulled from another room is an accent table. I flanked the bench with the side table. The combination of functionality and style with these two items lends a touch of modern hotel allure. I love that I get to have another place to set my coffee, a book, a candle and other decorative items. Speaking of decorative items, I added a gold sculptural piece that I had in my office on a stack of books and thought it would be perfect to have displayed on the side table (my decor accessories are always on rotation – wink, wink).

Brighten up the space – add some seasonal flowers (faux or real) and a new scented candle.

Nothing welcomes you into a room better than with flowers, am I right? For a natural hit of the unexpected, I added real-like faux cherry blossom pink branches in a vase, atop my vanity table. The cherry blossom branches are so grand and the light pink and white flowering branches are so pretty to look at while getting ready in the mornings!

There’s not a candle I don’t love, so adding a new scented one always freshens up any space.

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s post on how I refreshed our master bedroom and seeing how a few simple and easy decor tweaks can transform your room – making your space feel renewed and ready to welcome the new season!
