About two weeks ago, I shared how I celebrated my birthday during the COVID pandemic. Celebrating birthdays during this social-distancing time can be a bit of a downer but there are ways you can still make a celebration special.
Not too long after my birthday, is my spouse’s big day. Our birthdays are twelve days apart and more than ever during this pandemic, I wanted to make it special by creating an intimate birthday dinner celebration at home, for the two of us. I elevated our dining room to soirée-ready status by curating a table that reflects the elegant style and inspires wonderful conversation. I chose a simple palette that included elements of classic white & gold and illuminated our dining room table with lots of candles.
Modern Elegance – Birthday Dinner Party for Two
The dining table is specially decorated with a sheer gray table runner to soften the striking white & gold decor elements, white florals that allowed me to keep the decor simple (yet elegant), lots of candlelights that sets the mood and invites warm conversation, all of which adds an elegant touch to our romantic dining experience.
Details to highlight include:
- White Balloons that I strategically place on and behind the dining table.
- Long glass gold metal candle holder centerpiece boxes with a mirrored bottom that adds a gorgeous reflective surface when the white pillar candles are lit.
- White and Gold Mercury Glass Votive Candle holders.
- Fairy lights draped around the table centerpieces, for additional sparkle.
- Small, subtle floral arrangements that anchored both ends of the table centerpiece, are white Roses and Orchids.
- Mirrored Squares I used a placemats that refract light and adds to the ambiance.
- White & gold dinnerware and flatware, paired with clear crystal wine glasses.
- Do use greenery – nature brings a certain freshness to your place setting. I placed a clipping of fresh eucalyptus on the dinner napkins.
- Provide soft background music.
After dinner was over, presents were opened, birthday wishes were made, and we danced. I think it’s safe to say, my spouse enjoyed the full VIP treatment. It was a memorable evening!
I found my glass metal candle holder centerpiece boxes at HomeGoods a while back but linked a similar one below. As an alternative, check your local Dollar Store for long rectangular glass vases…those will work too!
