HOW TO SET AN OUTDOOR FALL TABLESCAPE

A party just to welcome fall? Yes.

Happy first day of Fall! It’s officially the fall season and while I’ll always love the sun-filled, laid back days of summer, there’s something about autumn…pumpkins are harvested, it’s the season of comfort, and the time of year that comes with so many occasions to celebrate! The evenings are cooler, but often still comfortable enough for dining alfresco. Speaking of dining alfresco, it’s a wonderful season to gather together, surrounded by fallen leaves and rich colors that decorate the landscape. So celebrate the change of seasons with a party. Today, I’m sharing my outdoor fall tablescape and I hope it will give you inspiration to host your own seasonal gathering with friends and family.

Create the look…

  • Table Linen: The first thing you want to do is to decide on your colors. The inspiration for this tablescape started with the cozy, autumn hues of this plaid tablecloth. The perfect base for a harvest-styled table.
  • Create a Layered Table Runner: For my DIY centerpiece, the goal was to add texture, color, and the elements of fall. The table runner centerpiece included layers of seasonal decor elements like, faux leaf branches (found at Pier 1 but no link available 🙁 you can check your local store or craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby for similar options), clippings of faux berry branches, these decorative gold wire pumpkins, real white pumpkins, gold mushroom shape decor accent pieces, and fresh plums. For ambiance, I added two pillar candles at each end of the table runner.
  • Add your Place Setting: The table was set with champagne-colored glitter glass dinner plates (similar, here). I had for a few years now and Arbor Golden flatware designed with a twig-shaped handle and linen napkins with fringe were placed at each seat. Gold wine glasses with a smoky gray stem completed the setting. Bring in more of the fall color palette with colored glassware.
  • Add your embellishments: Welcome guests at their seats with a special touch you added to their dinner plate. For the place settings, I placed textured napkins with fringe edges (similar, here) added a bit of a rustic touch with birch place card holders and name cards that are designed with gold foil leaves (pretty option, here). I completed the place settings by clipping a few dried natural bunny tail grass and wrapped a brown satin ribbon around it to finish the natural look at each place setting.

After guests are done eating dinner, cozy seating with decorative pillows and chunky knit throw blanket on the outdoor furniture was a perfect way to end the night.

Real white pumpkins were scattered throughout the seating area and on the ottoman was a tray filled with freshly clipped hydrangeas in this hobnail footed bowl and this fireside scented candle.

Tune in on Wednesday for more fall tablescape inspiration – this one is indoors! Also this week, I’ll be sharing how to style a bar cart for fall!
