I remember as a kid, our family would always have a separate table for the kids to eat at during the holiday season. I think this lasted up until our early teenage years (ha!) and I recall I wasn’t to fond of it. I always wanted to sit at the grown-up table. Growing up in my generation, we didn’t have fun or fancy tablescapes but now kids can enjoy sitting together at a specially decorated table that will ensure a pleasant gathering.
The clock is ticking and Thanksgiving day will be here before you know it. You don’t have to spend a lot to create a festive table for kids. In fact, I purchased most of the items you see here are from Target’s Dollar Spot section of their store!
House and Pumpkin Table Centerpiece
Who says a kids table can’t be stylish. This Thanksgiving centerpiece idea is seasonal, kid-friendly and easy to put together. When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of ‘home’ so these white ceramic lit houses was a fun ‘ode to the holiday that is all about a family affair. The glow from each of the houses adds a nice glow to the table as the evening gets darker. Orange and white ceramic pumpkins added that seasonal touch. Flowers are nice to dress any but I decided to use faux Greenery Garland, instead.
Thanksgiving Place mats
A DIY coloring place mat is a great idea to keep the kiddos busy and entertained while the adults have grown-up time, while enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving feast. This Thanksgiving place mat includes fun activities that they can work on alone and play along with someone else: coloring, tick-tac-toe, a maze, find a word, and questions for kids to fill in the answers like writing a list of “I am Thankful for ____” and My Favorite Thanksgiving Food is____”, which is a great way to prompt kids to share their gratitude. Finally, I placed a small jar of crayons on each place mat.
Growing up, I recall contests were involved…best drawing, best coloring page. It kept us kids engaged and wanting to do a good job…at the end, we all won!
For table place setting ideas, I used my white Ikea dinner plates and plastic gold cutlery. I used my gold polka dot glass milk jars that I found at Target a few years ago. I found this set of 12 clear milk glass jars on Amazon.
I hope you enjoyed a few of the inexpensive decorating table ideas for kids this Thanksgiving holiday. It’s a great way to have your little ones enjoy their own little celebration!
