We are all confined to our homes, for the most part, and I decided this past Friday night to change things up and get creative in our living room.
I’m sure some of you wouldn’t mind welcoming a change of scenery at home, especially during quarantine. I shared what I did here on my instagram feed and I was happy a lot of you liked the idea! To change up the scenery in our home, we decided to make it a ‘date night’ and created a picnic-style indoor movie night in our living room. We got dressed up (meaning something other than our comfy lounge wear or PJ’s!), I even put on some makeup and did my hair (Oh, the compliments were coming at me all night! LOL)
The Picnic-style Setup:
The first thing I did was pick a section in our living room to create a picnic-style set up. I moved some accent chairs and tables out of the way and used the center of our living room to lay a goose down comforter (for that extra cushy feeling), placed a soft blanket on top of that for added comfort, a cozy throw for snuggling, and a few pillows to lay on. The next thing I did was set up our outdoor movie projector and created a makeshift screen using my camera light stands and cut vinyl fabric I had on a roll. If you have a blank white wall – that will work too. Alternatively, you can hang a white sheet to view your movie on. If you don’t own a projector, no worries, creating an indoor picnic set up while watching from your TV screen can be just as fun! After all, it’s all about the cozy atmosphere you are creating.
Since all the lights will be turned off while the movie is playing, I pulled out my lanterns for soft ambient lighting. You can use real or flameless candles, whichever you feel more comfortable with.
The next thing I did was placed a tray on the blanket to hold a bottle of wine, wine glasses, a bottle opener, pistachios for snacking, and added a bud vase that held some clippings from our backyard. A couple of paper napkins and a bowl of popcorn were set up to enjoy after dinner. You can set up any of your favorite movie snacks and/or candy treats.
The Picnic Menu:
On the dinner menu, we made a homemade pizza and a side salad. If you prefer, you can order pizza from your favorite restaurant and have them deliver – quick and easy!
We enjoyed this indoor movie night, picnic-style set up so much, that we kept it up to enjoy on Saturday night too! It was definitely a nice change of scenery. For a closer look, check this short video clip, below.
