If you follow me on instagram, you know of my love affair with flowers and creating beautiful arrangements! With the Easter holiday upon us, I wanted to create a flower arrangement that is beyond the vase. A wicker basket was the perfect place to hold and conceal a vase filled with an array of vibrant tulips. It’s a wonderful Easter gift basket to delight family & friends with and it would make a perfect centerpiece for your Easter tablescape!
How to create a DIY Tulip-filled Easter Gift Basket…
Items you will need:
- A Wicker Basket (I bought this one)
- A Vase that fits inside your basket (you can find a nice selection at the Dollar Store).
- Wet Floral Foam (I have these)
- Floral Scissors
- Ribbon to tie a bow onto your basket handle
- Crinkle Paper (alternatively, you can also use Easter grass or even moss to fill in the inside of the basket).
- Tulips (I have a quantity of 40, 4 bunches sold in a pack of 10)
Instructions:
- Measure the wet floral foam and cut to size so that it fits snug into your vase.
- Submerge the wet floral foam in a pail of water for at least a couple of hours so that the water soaks into the foam.
- Once your wet foam is fully soaked with water, place it in your vase. Fill the vase half way with water. If you notice your wet foam is floating, you either have too much water or the foam is not snug enough in your vase. Now place the vase into your basket.
- Cut your tulip stems to size and leave only the top leaves of the tulips.
- Starting from the outer part of the vase, insert each tulip in the wet foam. There is no wrong way to fill your vase, just be sure to insert the tulips equally around the whole vase so that they fall nicely over the basket around all sides. Note: if your tulips are too droopy – don’t fret! Insert a penny inside the bottom of the vase and one more on top of the wet foam. They will perk up in a few hours or sometimes over night.
- Tie a ribbon on the basket handle.
- Stuff the inside of your basket with the crinkle paper and hide any holes.
I hope you enjoyed this DIY Tulip-Easter Gift Basket idea and it inspired you to create your very own!
