Happy Mother’s Day!
I normally don’t post on weekends but I thought today is the perfect day to share the Mother’s Day Tea Party Luncheon we hosted yesterday for our special moms. It was a beautiful day for an easy spring tea gathering and we enjoyed spoiling our moms with tokens of love, flowers and gifts!
Planning a Tea Party? The table decor and and three-course food inspiration is suitable for any tea occasion.
When it comes to dressing the table, I don’t restrict myself to just tablecloths. I love to search for beautiful fabrics as a tablecloth or to serve as an overlay. I wanted to create a garden-like feel to the table so I searched at JoAnn fabrics for that type of pattern. A pale pink hue with subtle hints of blue – this lovely floral sheer fabric jumped out at me and was exactly what I was looking for (which happened to be on sale). I used a solid pink tablecloth as the underlay.
To continue with the garden-inspired look, I created the floral centerpiece using peonies, ranunculus, spray roses, and stock in pretty shades of pink, lilac, and white.
This was the perfect occasion to bring out my vintage luncheon plates that comes with a teacup. I love the modern look of the white with gold trim. I wanted to add special touches to the table so I searched Pinterest for downloadable printables. I printed these editable high tea menu cards and these cupcake cake toppers I used to place over the individually-sized champagne bottles. Handwritten notes are my favorite and they mean so much when someone takes the time to write a little note or letter. I printed out this ‘Things I love about my mom love card‘ and placed it besides the luncheon plate. The cards were read out loud and it was a wonderful keepsake for them to take home.
A tea party is not complete without some mimosas!
On the menu were a variety of savory tea sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and delightful sweets.
English Cucumber and Dill Tea Sandwiches
Strawberry-Chicken Salad Tea Sandwiches
Herbed Chicken Salad Tea Sandwiches
Turkey and Provolone Tea Sandwiches: turkey, provolone and roasted garlic mayo.
Orange-Cranberry Turkey Tea Sandwiches: this happened to be the favorite of them all and it was my own recipe! The secret ingredient was this Celebration Marmalade with Champagne! I simply spread marmalade on each bread slice, added a few dried cranberries and folded in smoked turkey slices.
I made delicious condiment recipes for the raspberry and orange cranberry scones.
Blueberry-cherry compote for more flavor, I used Trader Joe’s Very Cherry Berry Blend frozen fruit bag.
For the desserts, I added shortbread cookies with raspberry jam, Meyer Lemon cookie thins, and I baked white cake (from a box), cut it out in circles using a cookie cutter and topped each one with lemon curd – this was also the tables favorite! We stopped at Gaby Et Jules, one of our favorite French bakeries for some special confections like macarons, Bavarois aux fruits, raspberry tartelette, and handcrafted chocolates.
This turned out to be such a lovely afternoon. We plan on hosting more of these 3-course tea parties more often!
