Spring is in the air – and on the table!
If you’re planning on hosting an Easter gathering this year and need some table inspiration to get you started, I’m happy to share with you, my bright and colorful, yet elegant Easter-themed tablescape. This tablescape highlights the bounty of spring in all it’s glorious hues!
It’s funny when I dream up tablescape concepts, there are times when I start out with an idea but then it slowly transforms into something else. This typically happens when I try to hard to stick to one vision so I find that when I let go and create more freely, nine times out of ten, I’m surprised yet happy with the end results. So tip when styling a table, don’t stress…it’s ok if you’re vision changes into something else.
Today’s Easter tablescape inspiration, features a combination of vibrant and soft pastel tones. Normally, you will see a table set in pastel hues or bright colors but hardly ever a mix of the two. I didn’t think the merging of shades would complement each other but it turned out to be even more vibrant and striking.
Create a mix and match color palette.
To achieve a balance of colors for each place setting, I used a set of different pastel shades from my diner napkins and glassware, to my egg cup holders. I would alternate each table setting by mixing and matching different colors versus being matchy-matchy.
When using an array of bright colors, it can create a ‘playful’ look, so I decided to use my gold polka dot dinner plates that adds a bit of whimsy on the table. For a touch of elegance, I layered the dinner plate with a white, gold-edge salad plate. To keep the place setting cohesive in pattern, I remembered I had purchased polka dot egg cups from HomeGoods last year. I alternated each salad plate with a pink egg cup holder and a light green one.
Create your perfect spring flower centerpiece with a mix of bright and soft colors.
You don’t have to spend a fortune at your florist in order to create a beautiful floral centerpiece. I find that during this time of year, you can get a variety of quality flowers at your local grocery store. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are my top two places to shop for a great selection of blooms! The flower colors I used were pink – ranging from light to dark, bright yellows, classic whites, light and dark purple, and greenery fillers.
I used a large oval serving bowl as my vessel and placed two flower frogs inside of it to create a centerpiece that looks like it came from a florist. I swear by flower frogs – not only do they help in keeping your flower stems in place but the holes in the frog help you in the styling of an arrangement!
Easter-themed decor for the ultimate spring table showcase.
An Easter-themed table is not complete without a sweet display of bunny decor. No need to go overboard, a dash of fun will do. I recently found this set of white bunnies that spells the word ‘easter’ on them. I placed this bunny decor on the center of the table, in front of the flower centerpiece. For bit more of whimsy, I added my egg-shaped candle holders that have this pretty white damask design on them (purchased a few years ago from Williams Sonoma). They also had these tiny pastel colored taper candles that fit perfectly inside of the candle holders.
Add a natural and textural element to the table.
I softened up the look of the elegant gold dinnerware by adding a natural textured placemat underneath. Since I like to do things in pairs, I displayed the antique gold flatware by inserting them in my burlap cutlery pouches. The natural textures of the placemats and utensil holders creates a purposeful balance to the place setting.
Tips on adding special touches.
If you plan on displaying egg cup holders on your plates, you can either use dyed eggs you made or you can use faux colored eggs and use them as place card holders. Just hand-write each guest name on the front of each egg! You can also add a special touch by tucking a small single bloom into each folded napkin.
I hope you found today’s Easter-themed spring tablescape to inspire your own Easter celebration! Tune in for tomorrow’s blog post, where I will be sharing how I styled our bar cart for a fun Easter celebration!
