One of my fondest childhood memories is when my parents would take me and my siblings to visit our great grandmother. We would first make a stop at the corner bakery by her house and my parents would buy some desserts to bring with us. I used to love walking in the bakery and breathing in the smell of freshly baked bread, the sweet aroma of cake batter being baked in the oven and feasting my eyes on the large selections of Italian cookies and fruit filled pastries! My favorite pastry of choice was and still is Guava Puff Pastry (in spanish it’s called ‘Pastelitos de Guyaba’). This was one messy dessert I loved to eat! You have the flaky layered pastry, the sticky sweetness of the guava paste and top it off with more sweetness, sprinkled powdered sugar! Some recipes call for adding cream cheese with the guava, I chose to just using the guava. It’s a really simple dessert to make but I haven’t perfected keeping all the guava from oozing out while baking in the oven.

This looks delicious!! Was it hard to make?

Thanks! No it wasn’t hard at all. The ingredients I used were frozen puff pastry sheets, guava, some egg wash, simple syrup and powdered sugar! Let me know how yours turns out if you decide to make it 🙂
