It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at our home and I’m looking forward to sharing my Holiday Home Tour with you soon..stay tuned! Speaking of Christmas, yesterday on my instagram feed, I shared a picture of a how I transformed an ordinary faux tabletop tree into a beautifully decorated one. This was a gift for my mother-in-law who hinted about wanting a tabletop tree this year so I was happy to create something special for her!
I thought for today’s post, I would share my 3 easy tips to decorate a beautiful tabletop Christmas tree.
Tip #1 – get a pre-lit tree
When purchasing a faux tabletop tree, try to get one that comes pre-lit. I purchased this 3ft tree from Walmart. Purchasing small lights and wrapping them on the tree is one less thing you have to do. Besides, the pre-lit ones are nice and secure on the tree and won’t droop when you start to decorate with ornaments.
Tip #2 – add filler.
When decorating your tree, don’t just stick with ornaments, instead add filler by using stems, picks, and clip ornaments. A lot of the fillers you see here, I already owned. However, the two gold glittered birds, I found at Walmart. My mother-in-law loves birds so I wanted to incorporate them on the tree. I like that they are clip-on ornaments instead of hanging ones because they not only added dimension, the birds appear to be flying up on the branches.
Tip 3 – use a decorative vessel.
Whether the tabletop tree you buy has a base or stand, heighten it by placing it in a decorative vessel. The pre-lit tree I purchased had a burlap base and I wanted to step it up a notch by inserting the tree in a beautiful decor piece that she can reuse for something else. I found this pretty white and gold polka dot vase at Target. It was the perfect fit for the tabletop tree. In order to keep the tree from shifting, I added faux snow flurries inside the vase. The snow completed the look and also added a festive touch!
After visiting my mother-in-law yesterday and giving her the decorated Christmas tree, I’m happy to report, she loved her present. But the funny thing is, I found out later from my spouse that she thought I bought the tree decorated like this (a compliment indeed) but my spouse explained to her that I decorated the tree and inserted it in a vase that I picked out for her. She replied that it was even more special and added that I bring beauty to their lives (Awww…insert teardrop)!
