2 WAYS TO ARRANGE YOUR HYDRANGEAS TO DISPLAY BOTH INDOORS AND OUT

If you were to ask me what is one of the best things of summer, I would have to say the ability to go out front or in our backyard and clip some peonies and hydrangeas we have planted. Growing flowers for cutting is such a joy for me so that I can transform into beautiful arrangements, big or small. Also, having readily available flowers are perfect for those days when you have an impromptu gathering or last minute guest visits. It’s a relief when you don’t have to rush out to the grocery store or florist to pick up some fresh flowers!

I noticed that a few of our hydrangeas were at its fullest bloom and if I didn’t cut them, they would eventually die. So I was inspired to create two different arrangements…one for outdoors and one for indoors. Keep reading to see how I created these two ideas for a simple DIY vase arrangement.

Since this is the season that we spend those most of our time outdoors, I’m always looking for ways to create centerpieces ideal for our outdoor dining table.

To achieve this look, I cut (8) hydrangeas and several leafy hydrangea stems. To arrange the hydrangeas, I used a large glass flower frog. Glass flower frogs are reusable pieces that sit at the bottom of a vase and securely hold your flower arrangement in place, while still getting water.

Items needed:

  1. A long window box planter (mine shown here is 24″)
  2. A vintage glass flower frog (size: large/13 hole)

How to assemble:

  • Place your flower frog in the center of the planter box
  • Fill your planter box with warm water
  • Cut your first hydrangea stem to size and insert it in the middle hole of the flower frog.  Make sure your hydrangea stem touches the bottom of the base so it can drink the water.
  • Take off the leaves on the lower part of the stem (you don’t want the leaves to be submerged in water.  Continue to insert each hydrangea stem into the flower frog holes. The center of the arrangement will give you a nice full-looking centerpiece.
  • For the left and right sides of the planter box, you will want to fill these empty holes with the greenery leafy stems to add fullness.

Whether you’re looking to dress up your dining room table with a centerpiece, decorate a buffet table, or bar cart, these tall arrangements definitely have a wow factor and are very grand! I wouldn’t suggest this type of flower arrangement when setting up a tablescape because viewing your guests will make it difficult to conversate. If you have kitchen island, a couple of these arrangements in various sizes on your counter, will look amazing. Our dining room table fits seating for eight and displaying these large arrangements adds a bounteous cheer and a stunning touch of decoration.

Items needed:

  1. 16″ glass cylinder vases (depending on the size of your table will determine how many you can fit)

How to assemble:

  • Fill your cylinder with water and insert hydranges. If you have a very large bloom, I inserted only one stem and also included the stems of the hydrangea leaves.
