I used to be afraid to work on custom designs for my customers who were looking for that special and personal greeting card because I was concerned I couldn’t deliver what they had in mind. I didn’t want to put myself through the stress so I avoided it. However, as of late – I’ve been accepting custom greeting card requests and I’m thrilled that the end results made my customers happy! I’ve learned that if there is something I cannot produce specifically for my customer, it’s ok to say I’m not able to but can hopefully provide an alternate or similar design.
Question…what do you look for when shopping for a greeting card? Is it the look? Is it the inside message or both? Do you prefer printed illustration cards vs. 3D handmade designs? I would appreciate your opinion on this, so let me know in the comment section below!
Below are two custom (age-specific) birthday cards I had created and are now available for purchase in my shop!
Similar to this ‘Cheers’ champagne bottle card I designed, I thought it would be cute to make a smaller version of the champagne bottle and use it as a cake topper. This card can be customized for any age, perhaps for that special person turning 21?!
This fun and vibrant 40th confetti birthday card is also available to be customized to any age number. Right now, I have age 50 available in my shop!
All of my greeting cards are designed on my signature square folded card that has a slight metallic sheen. Each greeting card comes with a coordinating hand-lined envelope for that added elegance. To shop for these cards or to view a variety of my unique designs for all occasions, head on over to my shop, here! Stay tuned to see a few new Mother’s day cards that will be featured here on the blog, in the coming weeks!
As always, thank you for supporting my small business!! xo

Let the dark shadows and flickering candlelight that cast a glowing greeting inspire a tablescape for your indoor halloween entertaining.
It didn’t take much to evoke an enchanting, yet alluring mystery of a dark autumn halloween night. I created a less frightful and spookishly tabletop. I instead, conjured up a marvelously moody, romantic table for all to gather – fit for a halloween fête (costumes optional).
As a backdrop for the spellbound hallows eve, I covered the table in a black flock velvet damask fabric and draped it to the floor. I created a runner by layering a black toiled netting cloth along the center of the table. For the place setting, I kept the chic black theme from the dinnerware and flatware, to my vintage silver rimmed glassware. For a lustrous glow, I added small gold pumpkin candles and gold doilies, placed on each plate, underneath the coupe glass. Black taper candles that features a gold patterned design were inserted in clear glass candelabras. For a bit of halloween decor, I used beaded spider ornaments (similar found here) made out of black acrylic gems and I wrapped each one to a dinner napkin – creating a napkin holder. Red roses are the essence of modern romance, so I created a centerpiece filled with an abundance of long stem roses. I housed the roses in a black lacquered vessel that featured scroll design handles, which mimicked the damask table fabric.
We all know that halloween is about tricks and treats, so don’t forget the sweets!
I hope you’ve been inspired to transform your table into a moody, romantic halloweens scene. Below are some links to some of the items I used and others are similar in style.
Black & Gold Vase or simply spray paint a large vase using a high gloss finish
Gold Glitter Pumpkin Votive Candle Holders or check your nearest Home Goods, TJMaxx, or Marshalls for a set of gold pumpkin candles

October 1st marked the 3-year anniversary of Design by Occasions’ blog; ‘The Noted’. I started on October 1, 2013 – obsessed with pretty things, beautiful tablescapes, stunning interiors & decor, trending fashion, and delicious food & beverage recipes. I created a lifestyle blog as a destination for ideas and inspiration and this year I wanted to incorporate even more of my own content and I hope to increase that just a bit more. There are days when I find myself so inspired, that I’ve filled my notebooks with ideas and projects – wishing I could create unique content each and everyday but I have to balance with designing new Design by Occasion greeting cards and fulfilling orders. I do what I can and love what I do and appreciate those of you who visit the blog, whether it’s all the time or once in awhile. It’s a wonderful compliment for me to especially know that you visit from the vast and beautiful blogs out there!
So what’s in store for the blog in the coming months? Well, I will continue to explore the topics I love and dedicate the blog to home decor, styling with a focus on entertaining. One thing that will bring an instant smile to my face any day are flowers – there is something about them that are so cheerful! Whether I’m viewing a beautiful garden with an array of colorful flowers, perusing stunning arrangements on instagram or making one of my own, they inspire my creative spirit. As of late, I’ve been admiring a particular style of impressive floral arrangements from a few florists I follow. The drama of the way the designers position each flower to appear as though each bloom is mingling with the next, the way they let particular florals drape in its natural form, the free flowing design that is not structured and brings your eye in and around has a garden-style aesthetic – that is truly a creative work of art!
A look into some of the talented florists that inspire me with this type of floral design:
As of late, this way of styling a floral arrangement has inspired me to try my hand at it. I obviously have to keep at it in order to perfect my arrangements but I sure do have fun trying! In the first picture above, I created this flower arrangement using about nine different blooms. I centered the hydrangeas, since they are the larger blooms and I cut each other stem in a various of sizes so that the florals didn’t look so meticulously arranged. I styled an early fall vignette that lets the pink pop from all the natural white and browns.
Of course, I couldn’t help myself but to style this arrangement as a centerpiece for a tablescape design.
So what do you think? How did I do? If you are a florist and would like to share some tips, we are all ears! Feel free to comment below.
