Life: MY BIRTHDAY WISH…

Life: MY BIRTHDAY WISH...

Yes! Today is my birthday and I couldn’t be happier…even with what I am going through.

As I reflect on the past seven months, I recall the first day of the new year and waking up in our own bed after spending three months between NY and NJ for a surgery I underwent.  You can read more about that and my journey in this post. To return to a place you call home, to all familiar things, smells, and glimpses of happy memories as you look around. All of that brung me a smile to my face..all of which gave me a sense of normalcy from all that I had endured prior to.

The next couple of months thereafter were spent recovering and coming to grips with what my “new normal” is and dealing with the emotions that come along with not feeling like your old self, pre-surgery. My new normal consists of daily naps and not being able to function like I used to. Gone are the days when I could tackle cleaning the house in one afternoon. Now, I’m lucky if I can get through cleaning two rooms in the house without exhausting myself. Whenever I over exert myself and by that I mean, doing too much moving around, frequently going up and downstairs, walking a lot…these everyday movements are now a challenge for me. I have to conserve my energy otherwise, I can burn myself out quickly, develop cramping and discomfort. When this occurs, I then have to take medicine and lay down for 20-30 minutes in order for my body to relax so that I can continue doing other things that are not so strenuous to my body. I am reminded of this daily and there are days when I am emotionally frustrated at what my ‘new normal’ is.

From the outside, I look just fine. You know the saying…”Look Good, Feel Good”? Well, that is what I do to maintain my “old self”. I put on my makeup, style my hair, and look the part of a healthy woman. But inside, I’m not so healthy. I recently found out that after having 12 cancerous tumors removed last year November, I now have three areas of disease I need to be concerned with…so here we go again! If you follow me on instagram, you may recall when I posted this caption where I expressed how I celebrate all of life’s joys and how I go on with my everyday. It really helps me to put focus on things that make me happy, things I want to continue to do and pursue. Doing this keeps me in a positive mindset so that I am not constantly thinking about the negative and putting me in a place of sadness. Despite my health, everyday I find joy (big or small) and love that I get to share it with the one I love. I’ve been very blessed this year where God made something very special happen for me – I hope to share this with you soon, in another post.

This Thursday I am to undergo a procedure in order to kill one of the tumors that is the largest in size and appears to be more aggressive than the other two. What’s my birthday wish, you wonder? Well, it doesn’t come wrapped in a box tied with a pretty ribbon. Nope my birthday wish is not something one can buy or make. If every birthday candle brought me a new wish, I would repeat my wish for good health.

Go ahead – celebrate your life, your heart, and the everyday joys!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

While today is officially my birthday (YAY!), I had a “pre-birthday” celebration over the weekend. My aunt and cousins (that I haven’t seen in over two plus years) made a road trip to visit us from NY and my brother & his girlfriend drove from VA to visit as well. I can’t tell you how much fun we had! I thought I would share a recap of my birthday weekend.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

Prior to my family arriving at our house, my better half took me to our favorite winery to pick up desserts and surprised me with a gift to go flower picking. The above picture shows just one section of the rows and rows of flowers grown at a section of the winery. I found that I was the only person in the garden area. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining and there I was, with a pair of scissors in one hand along with a container filled with water. It was a tranquil and calming experience to just leisurely walk around to your favorite blooms and clip the stems that would result in a pretty bouquet.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

This was the flower arrangement I created and placed in our guest room.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

Since it’s no secret that I LOVE LOVE LOVE flowers, I later received a gorgeous bouquet filled with my favorite flowers from my one and only!! It was similar to the bouquet that was made for our engagement shoot. The stunning arrangement was all-white and included peonies, hydrangeas, roses, and ranunculus.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

I took some of the flowers, placed them in a vase and displayed them on our ottoman tray – in the living room. The remainder of blooms are sitting pretty on my makeup vanity.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, I would always enjoy watching those heartfelt, feel-good type of movies where a family would have relatives visiting from out-of-town, their house would be filled with overnight guests and you would find the whole family gathered in the kitchen, sharing good times, all while helping prepare a meal…that was us this weekend! In the evenings, you wouldn’t find an empty glass because the wine kept flowing. On the first evening, we all gathered on the outdoor deck, sat underneath the stars, eating, drinking, laughing and telling jokes. Sounds like a movie, right? Well actually, while we did sit on the deck underneath the sky catching up and telling jokes, it was so humid, damp and there wasn’t enough candlelight to see in front of us that we had to whip out our motion spotlight to see around us but we found the humor in it all! Sunday morning included a brunch and mimosas and since it was hot as hell outside, we played fun water games in the backyard (I truly felt like a kid again)!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

On their last night with us, we had already pre-planned an elaborate surf and turf dinner menu and since thunderstorms were in the forecast, I decided to create a simple tablescape inside.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

When hosting a lot of overnight guests, we found ourselves cleaning a lot of dishes (you would always find my mother or aunt handwashing everything) and I didn’t want the night to end with more cleanup so I used some disposable items – the kind that are too pretty to throw out. Remember this post? I had a white and gold confetti theme with these patterned paper placemats and these ivory gold rim confetti heavyweight disposable dinner plates. To create a moody vibe, I inserted white taper candles into my mercury glass candleholders along the center of the table and in between each of them, I placed a few of my birthday flowers in clear glass cylinder vases.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

After dinner, my family wanted to sing happy birthday to me but I had expressed to them that I preferred they didn’t because the evening was a celebration of all of us – like my company tag line “Celebrating All of Life’s Joys”. So I went around the table and explained that we are celebrating all of us…the recovery of my aunt who had recently undergone kidney surgery and thankful for God healing her. For my cousin who had recently received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree – so proud of her! For my brother who started his own business as a bowling pro-shop owner and who has found a wonderful woman to stand beside him, for the happy engagement of me and my longtime partner, for my mother who is blessed with a new beginning and to have her live near me, for my other cousin who is a hustler – working a full-time job as well as an entrepreneur – dedicated to pursuing his passion. To me, these are all of life’s joys that are worth celebrating so I included a tall gold taper candle in each slice of limoncello cake (one of my favorites) handed one to each family member and told everyone to make their own wish that evening.

MY BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!

This was truly a wonderful birthday weekend and we missed my sister and brother-in-law not being able to celebrate with us.

Cheers to love, family, birthday celebrations, and all of life’s joys!

IT DOESN’T GET SWEETER THAN THIS…NOTHING BUNDT CAKES

Nothing Bundt Cakes

If you follow my blog, than you may recall that over this past weekend, we had our very good friends visiting us from out of town. They drove down in their souped-up RV all the way from Texas and we were gifted with a dessert from Nothing Bundt Cakes. We didn’t eat it right away (sshh..secretly I wanted to eat all by myself!). It wasn’t until about three days later that I took it out of the fridge, made myself a cup of hot tea, cut a slice and was shockingly surprised how moist it still was!

Nothing Bundt Cakes

Before I knew it, I was cutting another piece, and another, and another. You know when something you eat is so good, you just sit in silence and enjoy every bite? That was me! By the time I noticed, I had already eaten half of the bundt cake so I mentally stopped myself and saved the rest for my better half.

The best bite was when I reached the part of the bundt cake that had the raspberry filling. Mmm…so good!

If you’ve never heard of Nothing Bundt Cakes and are lucky enough to live in an area that has a physical location, check them out and also take a look at all these super cute decorated bundt cakes for any occasion.

Please note this is not a sponsored post, I just like to share with my readers anything I personally like and would recommend.

Party Decor + Inspiration: CONFETTI BIRTHDAY WISHES

Cue the confetti… as that’s what sparked my party inspiration mood board idea!

Party Inspiration: Confetti Wishes

With birthday’s coming up this summer, I’ve been thinking of party decor I would like to incorporate and how I would like to add a playful touch of fun and a splash of color with confetti and colors alike. Rather than having a themed confetti party, I prefer to add a sprinkle of confetti and incorporate the same color palette throughout the party decor and even the food! From ombre birthday candles and floral filled ice cubes to watercolor decorated cookies, they are the perfect addition to your next celebration!
